10 Parisian specialties to eat! :)

Hello foodies!

As you can imagine, Paris is not only famous for the Eiffel Tower but also for its culinary specialities! Here is a selection of 10 specialties for you, bon appétit!

1. Parisian baguette! Crispy and light, baguette became a symbol of France in the world and the one of Paris is known to be the best, yay! Baguette is simple and easy to eat: nature, on leaving the bakery, toasted for breakfast, with jam or Nutella, with cheese as a sandwich, at lunch or dinner, any excuse is good!

2. Les Halles gratin soup! Paris has taken ownership of the Lyonnaise onion soup by improving it with a layer of grated gruyere cheese and by passing it on the grill, yum…

3. Bercy entrecote! This entrecote is grilled with parsley and watercress, accompanied with a basic white wine sauce, shallots and lemon juice. It’s a specialty of Bercy area.

4. Croque-Monsieur! This kind of hot sandwich bread is made with ham and cheese (usually Emmental), grilled in a pan, in the oven or in a specialized machine. It’s a flagship culinary dish in Parisian bistros, I love it accompanied with French fries and salad…

5. Parisian sandwich! This very popular sandwich is composed of a split baguette, butter, ham slices, and sometimes pickles. Simple but delicious!

6. Parisian brioche! She is famous with her little head and her flutted body, all golden and as light as tasty… Parisian brioche is a queen is the kingdom of viennoiseries!

7. Chouquette! Small pastry puffed and light, the chouquette is prinkled with pearl sugar and made with choux pastry. It is never sold individually but rather by the dozen and we understand why…

8. Parisian flan! We recognize it with its pastry bed supporting a light yellow thick layer covered with an upper layer crumpled and browned by cooking. Its elasticity and freshness, and its good vanilla milk taste will take you back to childhood…

9. Opéra! It’s a chocolate and coffee cake. It consists of a succession of Joconde biscuit soaked in Grand Marnier syrup or coffee, ganache and coffee butter cream, covered with chocolate icing… This is absolutely divine!

10. Paris-Brest! This is a pastry crowned shaped, consisting of a filled choux pastry with a praline mousseline cream, garnished with flaked almonds. The Paris-Brest shape represents a wheel in reference to the cycling race between Paris and Brest created in 1891. Paris-Brest pastry was born in 1910. Good but hearty!
